  • 400 Years Of Settlement 1609 - 2009

     400 Years Of Settlement 1609 - 2009
The islands of Bermuda were discovered by Juan de Bermudez about 1505, but they remained unsettled for another century. In the summer of 1609, the second fleet of ships bound for the first English colony in the Americas at Jamestown, Virginia, was struck by a hurricane, with one ship, the Sea Venture, managing to reach Bermuda. It is thus that the permanent settlement of the island is said to have taken place from July 1609, as there were no aboriginal peoples on the island.
